Earth First! Winter Moot - updates on agenda & more - 6-8th February 2009
Posted January 11th, 2009 by AnonymousThe Earth First! Winter moot is
an opportunity for people who feel affiliation with the ideas behind
Earth First! to network, discuss and reflect on the ecological direct
action movement and to plan for the future. In contrast with the yearly
EF! Summer Gathering, which is held outside for around five days, the
winter moot is a shorter weekend meeting, inside, less aimed at skill
sharing and more at looking where we are at as movement and where we
want to be going.
A session is also reserved for discussing a UK mobilisation for the UN climate conference in Copenhagen late 2009.
Earth
First! is not an organisation, but a banner for non-hierarchical
organising and the use of direct action to confront, stop and
eventually reverse the forces that are responsible for the destruction
of the Earth and its inhabitants.
Topics that have been raised include (Updated):
-
the Copenhagen climate summit with a number of people from Denmark
coming over to talk about logistics, tactics and mobilisation
- the G20 summit in London
- Leave it in the ground / coal
- GM
- Rossport
- Strengthening the EF network: communication and security, actionupdate and gatherings
- Implications of the crisis
- Climate and migration / eco-activism and Noborder networks
There will be a Saving Iceland meeting on the Friday afternoon before the gathering.
The
agenda is open. Please contact the organizing collective (moot2009 AT
earthfirst.org.uk) know if you want to add anything, want to help with
facilitation or have any other queries. You are welcome to use our PGP

Suggestion: read the activist security guide on http://www.activistsecurity.org/
There
will be sleeping places arranged and food available at cost price from
Friday evening. The program will start on Saturday at 10 AM. Please be
on time.
Please help spread the word. Download poster (pdf, ca. 200kb)

Critical Mass finally achieved in York!
Posted November 7th, 2006 by GrahamAt 6pm on Friday 3rd November York's Critical Mass finally got moving. After two months of spreading the word, at 5:30pm around 60 cyclists began assembling outside the Minster. With a bike-mounted sound system and lots of tinkling from bike bells, the ride set off to spread the message that cycling is good for the environment and definitely lots of fun.
York's newly launched Critical Mass was first announced on this site on 7th September and an article entitled "What is Critical Mass?" appeared some time later. Photos from the event have now been published here as well. Look out for more as the next ride approaches!
Critical Mass Publicity
Posted November 6th, 2006 by GrahamThis page provides the electronic copies of publicity for York Critical Mass. Its great when a mix of publicity appears, and it looks like lots of people 'own' the event, so why not design your own?
Key to files:
Promo - Stuff for promoting Critical Mass rides
During - Things to hand out on the day
Poster/Fliers - 2 to an A4 page, good for info stalls and cramped notice boards.
Poster - Whole A4 page, better for less cramped notice boards.
Slips - About 4-6 long thin fliers to an A4 page; print out the sheets, cut them up, and attach the slips to bikes by wrapping around either the handlebars or crossbar and stapling the ends together.

Sudden rise in Eco-Action in York
Posted September 12th, 2006 by GrahamThere's been a lot of goings on in and around York lately around the subject of the environment. More specifically, most of it has focused on Climate Change. It seems to have started with a small action against the proposal for an incinerator somewhere in North Yorkshire. Then traders and residents in Fossgate, one of the narrowest non-pedestrianised streets in York, anounced their campaign to get it pedestrianised.
Then came the Climate Camp, which set up just down the road from York at Drax. There were workshops and preparations for the Day of Action at Drax Powerstation. Drax itself wasn't shut down, but all around machines lay abandoned for the day.
