Opening on Human Rights by Barrister James Keeley:
BIOGRAPHY
Barrister James Keeley was brought up on a council estate in inner city Birmingham. His determination to fight for the most vulnerable in society was shaped by his family having to solely depend upon benefits during the Thatcher years. Despite his parents having no schooling beyond the age of 14 he managed to secure a place at University. From an early age James wanted to speak up for his community and decided to read Law. On leaving University he trained for the Bar in London.
James was called to the Bar in October 1993 and began his career in London as a judicial assistant on two of the biggest fraud trials in history. The first case was Brent Walker with HHJ Geoffrey Rivlin QC. The second case was Maxwell with Lord Phillips (Now the Lord Chief Justice). Also whilst in London, James was involved in two more high profile cases: Serafinowicz, the first ever War Crimes Trial and the appeal of the Bridgwater Four.
