Save Our Barbican lobbies York Council

Details

York Council’s planning committee meets to discuss York Barbican Centre. The first application is to vary the conditions on the Barbican Centre so that work on the massive drinking den, night-club, and possible casino can start.

The second is to allow the Council and the other developers to break their promise to build a replacement swimming pool on Kent Street.

We are opposing both applications but we need help. If you disagree with what the Council is doing at the Barbican please join us outside the Guildhall, St Helen’s Square at 4pm.
You will not have to speak but please attend the meeting to show this council what you think.

York councillors vote to destroy Barbican

York citizens made spirited speeches to keep a swimming pool open on the Barbican site, but to no avail. The ruling Lib Dem councillors all voted to close it. You can't appeal to the humanity of people with no humanity.

Three Lib Dem councillors made unpleasant remarks about people who had signed a petition to keep the swimming pool open.
