UPDATED York Faslane 365 group launched
UPDATE: Email List now formed, please join if you are considering being part of F365 in York. No obligations on joining!
Campaigners met at Priory Street Centre this evening to hear from a member of the coordinating committee on how they can get involved in Faslane 365, the plan to blockade Britain's nuclear submarine base for a year.
While some from the meeting may visit Faslane during the Leeds/Bradford blockade-period, a date for York to take on the blockade isn't set. Its likely to fall during February, hopefully giving enough time for the group to form and plan their actions. Its hoped that people new to campaigning will join in.
A film screening of the Big Blockade film by Camcorder Guerillas will take place shortly at the Uni campus, and another screening is being fixed for people in the town centre. An email list is being set up, more details to follow.
The year of blockades started on 1st October and has seen over 250 arrests but no charges brought. Though the blockade has been removed time and again, the overall impact has meant those living off-site arriving late for work several days a week, and the MOD police are checking each vehicle more stringently, adding to the delays entering or leaving the base.
The blockade comes at a time when the UK government must choose between a Nuclear or Nuke-Free future for Britain. The submarines based at Faslane and their associated Warheads (Trident's) are in need of replacing. This action follows on from the Big Blockades that occured in previous years.
