Why no transport for Menwith/Fylingdales?
Its been brought to my attention that, with the exception of the odd car load, very little transport if any has been organised to recent protests at either RAF Fylingdales or NSA Menwith Hill, both of which are relatively close to York.
For those who don't know, Fylingdales is beyond Pickering and is part of the UK's radar tracking system (made available to Bush for Missile Defence). Menwith is just beyond Harrogate, and is the largest American spy base in the world. Technically its occupied territory.
Protests are organised at both locations during October's Keep Space 4 Peace week, and at Menwith on July 4th. Sometimes theres other protests as well. Menwith once saw a 5000 strong protest, but the most seen there recently has been about 150.
Anyhow, any suggestions for who can get transport sorted? York Against the War seem uninterested, there's no CND group and the other groups with Peace in the title seem uninterested.

Arranging transport is easy
Yep it is a shame, last minibus I drove over to Menwith Hill was last year! With a minibus it is affordable too, can get one for the day for around 100 quid or so if I remember right, which works out at less than a tenner a head.
That said it does take filling it. Pretty sure last time I ended up out of pocket :-( But if people are up for promoting events happening I'd be up for helping again.
promoting transport
I'd be happy to help promote transport to either of these places. I'm not officially allowed to take school days off work (including 4th july this year) but would try grovelling if we decide to book a minibus. Tracy
Try the Quakers
There's usually lifts available via local Quakers - there's a notice on the 'PEACE' noticeboard on Friargate Meeting-house wall, if you want to check next time you are there.
Of course, you could always try cycling :¬)
