Fur campaigners victorious in York

A second day of demo’s was held at fur sellers in York. Members of Northern Animal Rights Network visited city centre stores over two days. As a result there are now only 6 locations in Yorkshire where fur can be bought. The previous day an action was staged outside Eduardo's of York.

First stop was Sarah Coggles (Colliergate), where banners were unfurled outside just in time for opening. After 45 minutes, the owner came out and asked protesters to come in for a meeting. He gave lemonade and assured us that the fur would be permanently removed and he didn’t know about the cruelty involved until it was brought to his attention. Well done Sarah Coggles!

Last was Whigmaleeries (Walmgate), a sword shop selling rabbit fur accessories for kilts. The staff became extremely defensive and denying it was real fur. The staff from Eduardo’s of York, a fur store demo’d the previous day, went in to give Whigmaleeries solidarity. A few minutes after the demo started the manager, who the shop assistants said was on holiday, miraculously appeared. She agreed to remove the fur products.

Another day and two more shops remove the fur, and yet again loads of public support! However, evidence from other locations says that shop keepers believe they can reintroduce these products on the sly. Lets keep a good eye open, just in case.
