Climate March Coach a Success
York's contribution to the International Climate Day events in London was a sold-out bus to London, though the company sent a bus with 4 extra seats! Despite earlier fears that the bus would fail to sell, and a decision by York Trade & Debt Justice to subsidise, the last available ticket sold early in the week, and the bus broke even.
York People&Planet group sold tickets on campus, despite most of their active members going to London the day before for a national conference. Some of the students on the bus got off early and took the tube to reach the start of the Student Carnival, organised by People&Planet, where they met those already in London.
The remainder of the coach headed for the Grosvenor Square start to the National Climate March, just in time to hear Seize the Day playing. Both the march and the carnival ended at the I-Count gathering in Trafalgar Square. The coach then made good time to arrive back into York at 10:30pm, with everyone exhausted but glad to have taken part.
Big thanks to participants in York Eco-Action, and to York People&Planet, and to Fairer World.
