Councillor welcomes indymedia launch
Posted September 12th, 2006 by AnonymousThe meeting to launch the York Indymedia project had support from a city of York councillor, who said it represents a valuable means of different groups working together more on areas of common interest. The site has been set up by some activists who explained to the meeting the open democratic process of Indymedia news and the way in which local news posted in York might be accessed by people anywhere in the world.
It was also explained that the policy was non party political, so that something purely promoting a political party would not be carried but a talk on a topic organised by a political party might be. Andy D'Agorne who has been an environmental and peace activist for many years spoke about how the community newspapers of 20 years ago have now been largely replaced by websites and email lists.
