Mordecai Vanunu Freedom Ride visits Ripon
Posted March 31st, 2007 by GrahamThe Mordecai Vanunu Freedom Ride is happening for second year, riding from Faslane in Scotland to The Israeli Embassy in London, and this time its coming through Yorkshire. The ride enters Yorkshire on 12th April, when the riders will be staying in Ripon.
There will be an event in Ripon to welcome the riders, with the local mayor greeting them in the town centre. Anyone from York who wants to join the arriving cyclists is recommended to take a train to Thirsk and ride across.
The event will be the first time York Palestine Solidarity Campaign has been involved in anything happening in Ripon.
The riders will then travel to Leeds via Menwith Hill on the Friday, and from there to Sheffield on the Saturday. Anyone can join in with the ride, however a donation is asked for, as it costs a lot to organise.

York Vikings go berserk over Trident
Posted March 19th, 2007 by Anonymous
Vikings go berserk over Trident A twelve strong group from York dressed as Vikings has successfully blockaded both entrances to the Faslane nuclear submarine base.
The base is subject to a year long campaign rejecting nuclear weapons and the replacement of Trident in particular. This has attracted international support. Spanish protesters sang, danced and shouted encouragement to York's Vikings as four men and eight women were arrested in the peaceful protest. The co-ordinated action completely closed the base for half an hour.
One of the protesters Richard Lane said "The Vikings slaughtered tens of thousands of people but they did so over half a millennium. Trident could do the same in a minute."
Dave Taylor of York Green Party added "Whatever happened to the ethical foreign policy that New Labour once promised? There is nothing ethical about spending billions of pounds on weapons that the human race cannot afford to use."

York Faslane Group planning meeting
Posted February 16th, 2007 by AnonymousA group of campaigners from York are going up to take part in the rolling year-long blockade of the Faslane base in Scotland. Our dates will be March 18-19th, and we're hoping to do it with a Viking theme, representing our city's famous heritage.
We need all the help we can get! If you can come up with us, drive a car/minibus, help prepare, please get in touch. You don't have to take part in the blockade and you certainly don't have to get arrested!
Please come along to the planning meeting on Tuesday 20th February at 7:30 upstairs in the Golden Fleece.
If you can't make it, please get in touch - you can email york@faslane365.org. Please spread the word about the meeting as far and
wide as possible.
